Site set-up & security (temporary works)
The 📹 Site set-up menu on a residential site gathers what you need to lay out a construction compound or a site set-up drawing: cameras and their view splays, temporary works, Heras fencing and pedestrian barriers.
What is in the menu
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| 📹 Place camera / tower… | Opens the content library on Site Security: the CCTV tower and the portable CCTV sentry. With the Hire brands library turned on, the Sunbelt Trime X-Eye solar tower works as a camera tower too. |
| 🚧 Place temporary works… | Opens the library on Temp Works: site welfare cabins, skips, plant, lighting towers, barrier gates, Heras panels, road plates and traffic management. |
| 🚧 Heras fence run and Pedestrian barrier run | Draw a run of panels straight away: click points, double-click or press Enter to finish. These are the same runs as Fence-wall ▸ Panel run, so they measure and schedule like any other fence. |
| 📹 Camera view… | Sets the selected camera’s view angle, range and direction (select it on the plan first). |
| 📹 Splays on the plan | Shows every camera’s splay on the plan while you work. It is only on your screen: it is not saved and never prints. |
| 📋 Camera schedule… | Lists every camera with its mark, type, view angle, range and direction, whether the settings are the defaults, and Coverage: Not checked. Copy CSV copies it with the coverage note. |
Cameras and their splays
- One camera, the same on every site. A CCTV tower starts all round (360°) to 50 m and a sentry with one forward camera, 60° wide, to 30 m. These are drawing defaults, not a maker’s figures: set your own from the camera’s data sheet. Turn the object to aim it, or set a direction in Camera view. The settings, the splay and the schedule are the same as on an event site.
- See it while you adjust it. Select a camera and its splay shows on the plan, in 2D and on a sketch view, so you can see the angle and range change as you set them.
- On sheets, PDFs and the DXF the splays are drawn when the sheet’s style has Camera view splays ticked. In the DXF they are on their own layer, CCTV_SPLAY.
- Site security in the sketch style. A residential or retail sheet has a Site security row in its style settings. Untick show to issue a sheet without the cameras and their splays.
Coverage is not checked. A splay is the angle and range you set, drawn flat on the plan. Buildings, walls, plant, levels, mounting height, lighting, the lens and the picture are not modelled, so a splay does not show what a camera can actually see or identify, and the schedule gives no coverage figure. Nothing here says the cameras cover what they need to. Take that from your security provider’s survey.
What is not on a residential site
- Vehicle security barriers (HVM), the control room and the Martyn’s Law checks stay on event sites. They are built around crowds and the ways a vehicle could reach them, which a construction site does not have.
- Recorded entry controls on gates are an event-site record that only the event vehicle-approach check reads. On a residential site, put a note on the gate in its 🏷 Object data if you need one.
- Hoarding. There is no built-in hoarding style. Design one in Fence-wall ▸ Fence-wall styles (for example a 2.4 m close-boarded or panel fence). Adding a built-in style would change every saved design.
